Successful in summer and winter Successful in summer and winter
Only six athletes could win medals at both summer and winter games. The first was Eddie Eagan. In 1920, he boxed for the Olympic champion in the light heavyweight division. Twelve years later he won his second gold medal in bobsleigh. He is the only Olympic champion in summer and winter games.

Christa Luding-Rothenburger managed in 1988 the feat to be successful at both winter and summer games. She made it the only one in the same year. On April 16, 1988, she married her coach Ernst Luding. Therefore, she is the only one who could win under two names (Christa Rothenburger and Christa Luding-Rothenburger) AND in summer and winter games AND in two sports AND for two nations (German Democratic Republic and Germany) medals!

With six medals, the Canadian Clara Hughes was the most successful. After a career as a cyclist, she was successful in speed skating.

Sprinters have excellent starting skills. Therefore, they try it often in the second Sportals pushers in the bobsleigh. Medals in both sports could only win the US-American Lauryn Williams.

A curious combination of winter and summer sports was completed by the Norwegian Jacobs Thams. In 1924 he won as a ski jumper, 12 years later it was successful as a winner of the silver medal in sailing.
In 2021, the American Eduardo "Eddy" Alvarzez joined the five medal winners mentioned above as the sixth athlete. He won the silver medal as a member of the baseball team, and in 2104 he had also won silver with the American 5,000 m short track relay.
