1948 Gold was withdrawn from Sweden for violating the terms of participation by Gehnäll Perrson. Sweden had won sovereignly with 1366 points. Until 1948 only officers were admitted to the olympic equestrian competitions. Gehnäll Perrson was a corporal but was promoted to ensign by the Swedes during the games. After the games he was again a sergeant. A French officer realized that Perrson wore only a sergeant's cap. The protest of France was followed by the disqualification of Sweden. After the games, the strange officer rule was abolished. In 1952 and 1956 Gehnäll Perrson won the gold medal in dressage as a corporal with the Swedish team.
